The Gumboot Kids is a show about the outdoors and the fun, adventure, and joy to be found there. It’s an invitation to children and their caregivers to go outside, engage their senses, and mindfully explore the natural world.
It all started when...
In 2011 the show's creators--filmmakers Eric Hogan and Tara Hungerford--set out to make the kind of TV show they'd want their children to watch. They combined their love of nature with the yearning they felt to slow down and connect with each other and the natural world in a more meaningful, heart-centred way. They dreamed up The Gumboot Kids.
Four years later... Scout & The Gumboot Kids premiered on CBC Kids.
Today, Seasons 1 and 2 of Scout & The Gumboot Kids airs on CBC, on ABC Australia and in the U.S. on streaming platform, Curious World. Season 3, plus two new spinoff series, are currently in production.
The show is also garnering critical acclaim. It won both the 2016 and 2017 Golden Sheaf Awards for Best Children’s and Youth Production; it was nominated for six Leo Awards in 2016, winning for Best Screenwriting and Best Production Design in a Youth or Children Program. In 2017 it was nominated for seven more Leo Awards, winning five including Best Children's Program. It is nominated for a 2017 Canadian Screen Award for Best Pre-School Series.
